Whenever we visit Palestine to hear updates from farmers on the situation for them there, we hear many of them tell us that one of the toughest challenges is the feeling of isolation from the world
. To tell their story, to tell the world that they share the same joys and concerns in life as others around the world, is important to them and one of the reasons we founded Zaytoun.
Through fairly trading their produce, and through the trips and tours we facilitate for UK customers to visit Palestinian communities, we hope to offer an opportunity for dialogue. Trade has always brought people together, enriching cultures through exchange.
So this olive harvest season, we're inviting you to share your own harvest through images and messages of friendship to Palestinian farmers.
Of course, harvesters of blackberries, apples, plums and pears in Britain enjoy free access to hedgerows and trees, while Palestinians are often barred from their own land, or cannot bring their harvest home because of settler attacks and intimidation.
Between 24th September and 28th October, we're offering Zaytoun goodies as weekly prizes in a lucky draw of all the images you share with us. Prizes will include copies of Joudie Kalla's new book, Palestine on a Plate, as well as olive oil, dates and za'atar. To enter, simply share with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, an image of you, your friends or family harvesting fruit this season. You could even snap a picture of the elderberry syrups, apple crumbles or blackberry cakes you're cooking up. Include the hashtag #SharedHarvest and a simple message of friendship and support for Palestinian farmers.
Terms and Conditions for the weekly draw are here.
